In depth stats on the Call of Duty 4 Sniper Rifles.

fyh9ok.jpg
Weapon: M40A3
Accuracy: 9+ / 12
Damage: 9+ / 12
Range: 12 / 12
Fire Rate: 2+ / 12
Mobility: 8 / 12
Clip Size/Reserve Ammo: 5/15
Recoil: moderate/high random

Good Perks/Attachments: Iron Lungs, Stopping Power, UAV Jammer, Bandolier, Claymore x2

About the M40A3

Modified from the Remington 700 hunting rifle and used by the U.S. Marine Corps. Bolt-action. The Marines took the R700 and gave it lower recoil, a larger clip, and improved accuracy at the cost of bullet damage. That's the trade off you have to consider when choosing between this gun and the R700. Because it's bolt-action, choosing this gun restricts you to long-range sniping unless you enjoy using a pistol or using a second main weapon with Overkill. Be patient, line up your shot and hold your breath before firing, and remember to change positions after each couple of shots if possible to avoid being located.

M40A3 Challenges

Marksman - Get 100 kills with this weapon - 500XP/ACOG Scope
Expert 1 - Get 25 headshots with this weapon - 100XP/Digital
Expert 2 - Get 75 headshots with this weapon - 500XP/Blue Tiger
Expert 3 - Get 150 headshots with this weapon - 1000XP/Red Tiger Camo

M40A3 Perks

The M40A3 is great with a variety of perks, so try which ones help you out the most. Here are my favorite:

Bandolier - With 20 rounds of ammo, you can run out pretty easy if you don’t aim too well or kill a lot of people.

Claymores x2 - Protect your back! These are the perfect choice if you like sniping from a building and want to stop enemies from entering. Just put some claymores at the entrance and problem solved.

Stopping Power - Basically a must-have. Stopping power will boost your power and get you almost all one-shot kills. Unless you have stellar aim, use this.

Iron Lungs- This is another must-have perk for any sniper rifle. Lets you hold a zoomed sniper steady for 8 breaths instead of 4, the most useful third perk for a sniper by far.

Overkill - I do not recommend this to the beginner. Now, in order to get one-shot kills, you must aim at the head/chest. The plus side is you get another gun, which is great because you can pick something like an Mp5 and always have a great backup weapon to pull out instead of your sniper if you encounter an enemy at medium or close range.

UAV Jammer - Don’t you hate it when you are sniping, and someone knifes you from behind because they see you on UAV? Well no more! They can still see you on the radar when you shoot, so remember to change positions frequently to trick them out. (Same problems as Overkill, though. You lose the ability to one-shot kill people without stopping power).

Steady Aim - This will get you some quick no-scopes. I recommend this if you are using an ACOG scope. If you aren’t, then do not use steady aim.

Extreme Conditioning - For when you need to run to those good snipe spots or dodge enemies.

M40A3 Maps

Shipment - Out of all the maps this map would probably be the best to use the M40A3 on. In this map there are lots of places that will require that you put rounds down range fast and accurate. This gun along with the perks above will help ensure that you get what you want out of that gun.

Ambush - One of the best M40A3 snipe spots. I can get 20-30 kills with the M40 here on average. There are lots of secret hiding spots to snipe from too.

Backlot -The M40A3 beasts here. Try sniping in the buildings, but beware of the rooftop sniping location.

Bloc - The sniper’s dream map. Be careful though—if you can see them, they can see you.

Bog - Stay back with the M40A3 or go up to the risky hill. Either way, you can rack up some kills.

Countdown - A great map for the M40A3—remember, elevation can help.

Creek - Another sniper’s dream map. Find a good camouflage spot in the grass or trees and snipe away.

District - Stick to the long alleys—the marketplace won’t treat you nice.

Downpour - Here you have too options—stay back or go on top of the roof in the middle.

Overgrown At the beginning of the game, whoever can snipe fastest gets the kills. The M40A3, with its great accuracy, can get you 3-0 after ten seconds of playing.

Pipeline - Go up on the roofs, and remember to set claymores up—and the enemy usually can come from different ways.

Strike - The long streets make an M40A3 sniper happy.

About the M21

The M21 is a sniper rifle that has been in use since the Vietnam War. It is a Semi-Automatic sniper rifle, and it has the lowest recoil of a sniper rifle in the entire game. Because it is semi-automatic, you can fire the rounds as fast as you want, and because it has the lowest recoil, they would not be around like the Dragunov. The M21 is a modified version of the M14. It has added range, and a smaller magazine than the standard M14. The M21 has a longer barrel, and a bipod attached to the front of the gun.

About the Dragunov

The Dragunov, specifically the Dragunov SVD, is one of the most popular sniper rifles in the world today. A Dragunov is a type of semi-automatic, gas-operated rifle manufactured originally in the Soviet Union. This is a rugged and reliable firearm which uses a powerful round, effective for up to 3200 feet (1000 meters). It has a chrome-lined barrel, for corrosion resistance. The Dragunov also has a slotted flash suppressor.

The Dragunov bears a number of similarities to the world-famous AK design including the large dust cover, iron sights and lever safety selector.

The Dragunov is classified as a "squad support weapon." It is meant to extend the range of the standard infantry squad mostly equipped with AK-47s or similar mid-range firearms. The Dragunov has a much longer range and greater accuracy than AK-type firearms. The shortcoming of the Dragunov is the smaller round capacity and the lack of a fully automatic rate of fire.

Dragunov Perks

Stopping Power - This doesn't help the Dragunov get more 1 shot kills but it helps against Juggernauts

Iron Lungs - I would recommend this for the Dragunov unless you have the ACOG scope on it.

Steady Aim - I would recommend this for the ACOG'd Dragunov for no-scoped kills.

Claymores - These are great for camp sniping these will cover your back. They are also good for mobile Sniping.

Bandolier - This is great for mobile Sniper's this will give you 3 x more ammo than usual.

About the R700

The R700 is a bolt-action sniper rifle with high power and a 4-round clip. It is tied in power with the 50.cal, but it has better accuracy, making it the more effective choice for taking out foes at a range. The R700 is known for being one of the most disliked snipers of life, because of it's high recoil, low clip capacity, and just overall feel and performance. People seem to prefer the M40A3 because of lower recoil, and higher clip size. But I like the R700 a bit more now because of just pure power, being one of two hardest hitting guns in the game. This means all chest and headshots without stopping power are one-shot kills, making room for new perks like UAV Jammer. This is a feature that the M40A3 does not have, making the R700 the dominant long-range killer. I will delve into the R700 vs. M40A3 argument into a little more detail later, for now we will just focus on the R700.The Remington 700 is one of the most popular sniper rifles in the word, having hundreds of others modeled after it's design (including the M40A3). It's use within the military has ceased and has been replaced with the M24 and M40A3 in active service, but is still a favorite among police forces, hunters, and even professional shooters. It's design and performance is admired by many gun enthusiasts worldwide, and with it's family tree ever decending, it's legacy will be remembered.

R700 Perks

Claymore x2: Claymores are a snipers best friend, and can be used in virtually any situation to help a sniper out.

Bandolier: Great for long killstreaks, and it's good for laying waste to a building full of enemies. I would only advise using it if your perimeter is already protected by claymores.

Stopping power: It's excellent for getting one-shot kills with the R700, and it's probably my favorite perk for it.

UAV Jammer: This is great for a stealthy sniper class, and can get you a lot of kills. Just remember that you still appear on radar when you shoot, so make sure to alternate locations.

Iron Lungs: No real competition here, Iron lungs is the best sniper perk for long-range kills.

About the Barrett .50cal

The Barrett Firearms Company was founded by Ronnie Barrett for the single purpose of building semi-automatic rifles chambered for the powerful 12.7x99mm NATO (.50 BMG) ammunition, originally developed for and used in M2 Browning machine guns. Barrett began his work in the early 1980s and the first working rifles were available in 1982, hence the designation M82. Barrett continued to develop his rifle through the 1980s, and developed the improved M82A1 rifle by 1986.

Expert 2 - Get 75 headshots with this weapon - 500XP/Blue Tiger
Expert 3 - Get 150 headshots with this weapon - 1000XP/Red Tiger Camo

Barrett .50cal Perks

Claymore X2 - Of Course, if you are planning on staying in one area you may want to have some Claymores.
When putting your Claymores down try and make them less visible to the person when they enter the room.

Bandolier - If you are like me and take quite a few shots and run out quite fast you may want this. With that being said make sure you take well placed shots not just random ones hoping to hit someone try and aim at the highest body part possible.

Special Granades X3 - This perk can be quite useful if you hear someone coming behind you cause you can just whip a stun around the corner and then go around it and Knife or Pistol them. When throwing them into another room make sure to try and ricochet them off of the wall.

Stopping Power - If you play normal more than Hardcore you may want to put Stopping Power on as it will almost make every hit a One-Hit-Kill. Stopping Power will make almost every where a OHK but still try and aim at the Stomach, Chest, Neck, and Head as it Guarantees it to be a OHK

UAV Jammer - If you play Hardcore and you plan on staying in a general area I suggest you use this perk. When using this perk in core make sure you take your time on shots as even though the power is outstanding this will not make you less visible which will give you more time to aim towards the elusive HeadShot.

Overkill -This is also a very helpful perk. I suggest having a shotgun in you back pocket. When using Overkill make sure you have Iron Lungs so you can then make those OHK worthy shots with the gun.

Iron Lungs - If you are using the Normal Scope you may want to have this Perk on so you can steady the scope for a long period of time. When using the Barrett you may find that it is quite inaccurate but Iron Lungs is truly how I found that it can be a quite a Accurate Sniper but you have to be able to line up the shot.

Extreme Conditioning - If you are being a Mobile Sniper and need to get from Point A to Point B fast i suggest this perk. But if you are playing on a larger map i suggest using Iron Lungs.

Steady Aim - If you are in a tight situation and don't have time to pull out the Secondary Weapon this can be a valuable perk. If you are going to try and No-Scope people make sure you know how to No-Scope if you would like to learn please use reference

Dead Silence - Helps you stay quiet while moving around. Remember staying quiet is one of the keys to be a good sniper.

Sleight of Hand - Helps you reload faster for those "Oh Shit Moments" when you need to reload.
