Demo Trap Placement

The demo trap is one of the most underused weapons in this game. Practically no one knows its true power. A lot of people don’t like them because they don’t know where to place them.

All the GLA factions can build demo traps, only they have different kind of demo traps. The GLA vanilla faction and stealth both have the normal demo traps; they build up quickly, do average damage and cost $ 400. The toxin general has less effective demo traps; they build up slowly, do hardly any damage and cost $ 600 a piece, but once the toxin trap is exploded it leaves a toxin cloud (anthrax béta and after upgrading gamma it will leave a gamma cloud) which kills infantry units and hurt light vehicles. The demo general has very strong demo traps; they build up very fast, the damage they do is amazing and they only cost $ 200 each post-45-1298318248.gif

This pic shows how the different demo traps explode. You can see that toxin leaves a toxin cloud and that the biggest blast is made by the advanced demo trap.

Demo trap placement is a big problem for most people as they actually don’t know where to place them. They shouldn't be placed next to each other or very close, because this will cause a chain reaction. It’s best to place demo traps at the key points; the best place is at the smallest part of the key point. I will use the map Tournament Desert as an example for this. On TD there are 6 key points; 3 for each player. You can see it at this mini map. The small black circles are the key points.

For this part you actually need to look at where your opponent is coming through the key point meaning that the upcoming what I’m going to tell you depends on your enemy. I also would advice to set your demo traps on manual if you have very well map awareness, if you don’t have good map awareness then it’s best to put them on automatic.

Most people drive their units through the middle of the key point. That means that it’s best to make a demo trap in the middle of the key point.

If the enemy is using a big attack force then some units always will come through the sides of the key point. The first units will nearly always go through the middle of it. That means you also need to make demo traps on the sides of the key point. In this situation you should have the side demo traps in the front and the middle demo trap in the back row.

Of course your enemy will also use the sides to attack. If he does that very often than it’s best to place the side demo traps in the back.

If your opponent is using a massive attack force than you will know 1 thing nearly sure: that the first units are going through the middle of the key point. In this situation it’s always best to place 2 demo traps on the 2 sides and to place 2 demo traps in the front and back row of the middle. The front demo trap needs to be put on manual. That is just because that you want to kill the enemy his whole force, not only a few of his units and that he then retreats his units as it might get killed by demo traps.
